This course provides a practical introduction to the fundamentals of game design using Unreal Engine.
This course provides a practical introduction to the fundamentals of game design using Unreal Engine. It combines theoretical and hands-on components, covering topics from player psychology to level design, game loop modeling, and an overview of prototyping practices.
Course objectives and learning outcomes
Within the course, students learn how to structure a game idea into a Game Design Document (GDD), develop conceptual and analytical thinking, and become familiar with professional game design frameworks. They gain an understanding of the importance of player behavior and motivation, apply analytical design models to evaluate and improve games, participate in playtesting processes, and make well-reasoned design decisions based on received feedback. The course supports the development of student autonomy, ethical professional practices, and the formation of a strong portfolio concept.

About Instructor
Giorgi Shelegia is an AAA-level Senior Technical Game Designer specializing in Unreal Engine.
He currently works at the Polish studio Flying Wild Hog, where he is involved in the development of the legendary franchise Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Giorgi is responsible for critically important gameplay components, including the design and implementation of specific enemies and boss characters. One of his key areas of expertise is the rapid technical validation and prototyping of ideas, enabling the creation of functional and engaging game mechanics in a short amount of time.
